Jesus Starts His Earthly Ministry

We looked at fasting at great lengths at the beginning of the year, as we know that Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted before the start of his ministry. So we fast forward to Matthew 4 verse 12.

In this portion of scripture, we see the purpose of Jesus’ Ministry-“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near,” (verse 7). Jesus is announcing that the God, who has revealed himself to his chosen people (Israelites), has come to proclaim his kingdom (Kingdom of Heaven) to all- both Jews and Gentiles (non-Jewish).

One of the key points from the start of Jesus ministry is the imprisonment of John the Baptist, and from scripture, we find out that he gets beheaded later. Jesus doesn’t promise us an easy pain free life, but he promises us that he will be with us through the storms. This is summed up perfectly in the book of Daniel 3:16:

16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

The journey will be hard, however, it will not be impossible because of who comes alongside us on the journey.

What struggles have you been through that God has walked through with you?
