Day 4

Today’s devotional comes from my beautiful wife, Brenda. Pray for her, because I think she’s trying to take my job 😆.

Phew! Day 4, We thank God you have made it this far. This fast, like 2020, is a good reminder for us not to rely on our strength, but on God’s strength to get us through it all-our eyes focussed up above. May we continue the rest of 2021, completely trusting and relying on him to bring us through, not just for this year but also for all the future battles we may face in life.

Today’s Bible reading comes from the book of Joshua 10

We are going to focus on verses 12-14

“12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel:

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
Till the people had revenge
Upon their enemies.

Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.”

I personally love and encourage all of you, to study the book of Joshua, because of the great miracles and the great lengths that God went through to make sure he kept his promises to Israel. I find it encouraging to know that a human being just like us (Joshua) could pray that the sun should stand still, and it did! As you read through the rest of the book, you realise the Lord loved Joshua so much and helped him win so many battles, and eventually the conquest of the promised land.

Why Joshua though?

Joshua loved the Lord with all his heart,

Joshua fought battles on his knees (prayed) constantly,

Joshua sought out the Lord for guidance and council,

Joshua obeyed the Lord,

Joshua committed his battles to the Lord, and fully yielded to him as his divine Commander, so why wouldn’t the Lord bless him?

What do you do when it’s time for battle? Would you like to be just as blessed and victorious as Joshua?

Prayer

Almighty God, we look to you as our divine commander, who will fight our battles for us and see us through to victory, Lord there is no battle too big for you and we pray for victory over our circumstances today, we pray especially for our family and friends who don’t feel like they can endure anymore, and have no more fight in them ,May you fill them with strength and see them through this battle , may you fight for them too and help them win, In the Mighty Name of Jesus , Amen.

Amen!

Brenda.

The book of Joshua has so many lessons for us to draw from, some of which you have beautifully outlined, Brenda.

We will face so many battles throughout our lives (financial difficulties, marital problems, health issues, mental issues, family drama etc etc).
We need to talk on God first about the problems before we turn to anyone else. We need to commit our burdens to Him and He will surely fight for us as He did for Joshua.

I have learnt over the many years to truly fight all battles on my knees. Is it always easy? No. But it has always been worth it.
In the past I used to cry, take to the bottle (😱☹️) and even worry extensively but never knew to seek God’s intervention. Thank God for His Grace I now better now.

Thank you for today’s powerful devotion, Brenda.

The story of Joshua praying and having so much Faith in God answering his pray motivated me so much to turn to God in times of stress. Talking to God and telling him about my battle’s and how I need him to intervene.

Thank you so much Brenda for the reminder and I know my current battle will be just as victorious as Joshua’s.

I often say to God why me, at times I would question the task ahead knowing very well God wouldn’t put it before me if he knew I was not capable, I asked God with such a mammoth task can I truly make a difference, but Joshua is one I admire. I hope to continue to learn from God’s Word and the amazing servants of God may these lessons resonate in my hearts and to have the courage like Joshua to make a difference, thank you for the word and thank you for guiding us to appreciate what God has put before me.
