When I wake up in the morning, my thoughts are to go to my phone to see the football scores or news. That is what my flesh desires first thing in the morning. Because as you know after, going on the phone, you start clicking on other articles, games, social media, and within a flash, it’s time to get ready to go work.
Therefore if your flesh desires are more potent than your spiritual desires to seek God, then fasting is a way to reset the balance. As long as you are putting your spiritual desires first during the fast, then you are fasting. In my example, I could be fasting from my phone for 7 days. Therefore when I desire to look at my phone, instead I will pick up my bible and read a scripture or listen to worship music or maybe write a diary of how I overcame the power of flesh or even say a prayer of strength to overcome the desires of the flesh.
Those who are not able to partake in a food-fast, for example, those who are pregnant, those who are breastfeeding, those who need to take food for medication, etc. If you know you are not able to fast from food, you can fast from social media, gossiping, sports, TV, or Netflix (anything you feel that if you spent that time seeking God-praying, reading the Bible, fellowshipping, sharing the word, etc.- you will grow spiritually).
You might fast:
Breakfast-so you’ll fast from morning till noon (12:00)
Breakfast and Lunch – from morning till afternoon (15:00)
Breakfast till Dinner – from morning till evening (18:00)
Therefore if you are fasting breakfast, in the place of eating breakfast you use that time to pray and read the bible.
